Cornerstone to sustainable operations
Our priority is to develop modern manufacturing processes and products while safeguarding human health and the environment
Aiming to ensure that our products and manufacturing processes are safe for people and the environment, the company undertakes to apply 10 principles – the pillars of our “Green Chemistry” policy:
- Prevention – it is better to prevent the generation of waste than to clean it up afterwards
- Material Wastage Economy – Processes, technologies and final products should be designed so as to maximize the utilization of all the materials used in the processes
- Less hazardous processes – all processes should be designed so as to avoid using toxic compounds and other chemicals that have an adverse impact on the environment
- Safer product design – processes and products should be designed so as to preserve their intended efficacy and efficiency while reducing intrinsic toxicity
- Using safe reagents – chemical reagents and solvents that are used in the processes should be innocuous or not used at all
- Energy efficiency – all the processes should be designed to be conducted under ambient or milder conditions (low temperature, pressure, and shorter times of individual operations)
- Use of renewable raw materials – whenever technically feasible, renewable raw materials or feedstock should be used rather than depleting after the process is completed.
- Reduce process derivatives – to simplify the methods of synthesis by proper optimization or the use of chemo-enzymatic reactions
- Design for degradation – chemical products should be designed in such a way as to not pollute the environment and to break down into innocuous or inert compounds at the end of their life cycle
- Inherent safe chemistry – substances and their forming derivatives should be selected in order to minimize the potential for chemical accidents, including toxic releases, explosions, and fires.
These “Green Chemistry” principles will be mandatory for Polpharma and all of its external business partners. In implementing this policy, we believe that we will serve future generations by preserving natural resources and protecting the environment.
The principles of this policy are public and available to Employees, the Local Community, and other External Institutions.
